We haven’t heard from kmeaw for quite some time, so i managed to get a hold of him and it seems he might bring us another interesting release that should comes in the form of CFW. No, it’s not 3.60 CFW, if you still don’t get it.
I was thinking of a CFW that has bootOS integrated so it gets executed
when you power on your PS3 (and switches back to GameOS on user’s
request via menu or ssh). It’s not hard to make it. But recently I
read graf’s announcment that he is going to accomplish the same task.
So I don’t know, if such CFW from me would get any demand.Also I got bootos-installer and lv2patcher patches from an anonymous
hacker who have added 3.15/3.41 support. I’m going to merge them into
my code and release the next version.If you have any ideas about what would you like to have, please tell
me.
There you go. If you got any ideas (other than 3.60 CFW!) you would like to forward to kmeaw, you can just leave it here. I will pick the good ones for kmeaw to look into.
In the meantime, you might want to check out graf_chokolo’s tools for dual boot PS3 Linux on our hosted git provided that you are not aware of those new updates and did not want to wait for the actual noob-proof CFW release from graf himself.

This would be awesome if someone released a dual boot cfw that had 3.55 cfw and 3.60 ofw, so that modified consoles could access PSN legitamatley
A method of dualbooting with legit FW would take me right back to the Devhook days. IIRC the PS3′s bootstrap means it can’t be done without producing some sort of hybrid FW, which is wide open for abuse though, so I really hope nobody does this. We have the right to do what we want with our machines, but not to actively fudge up the online experience for others.
Yes I agree totally, maybe I didn’t say what I meant clearly. What I meant was that it would be good to have a modified console which could boot 3.55 CFW but also 3.60CFW so that we could play homebrew etc. in 3.55cfw, but also boot 3.60OFW to access PSN legit, but obv without any possibilties of mods or cheating online, so ppl with modded consoles could access psn but only on 3.60OFW so there would be no modding cheating online, but could also revert back to 3.55CFW to play homebrew.
I agree, that would be ideal, but because of the things we’d need to do to properly decrypt and boot into 3.60 in the first place the second we managed to dual-boot OFW, somebody would find a way to modify it within moments because the platform will already be there.
This was mentioned on another forum but it will very challeging if not impossible because you would need the ofw altered a little while in the first booting stages and Sony will be like there psp and make pointless updates

dual-boot is big deal, but i think this topic topped “most commented” because it´s something sayed by a respected scener as kmeaw. Is cfw is a reference and people expect great things from him (mathieull, looh at him…less words, more acts…)
Math contributed to the PSP scene massively back in the day. I’ve never understood why people harbour so much hate for a man who doesn’t want to risk ruining his life over a goddamn console. His real name, everything is known, making him an easy target for Sony. For all we know he HAS been releasing stuff under a pseudonym. Or maybe he’s really just playing it safe. Note do not update to OFW 3.60 or this hack will not work! 3.60 users a solution for you below!. Remember at the beginning of the PS3 cycle of the so called “Team Ferrox” who debut the first-unreleased PS3 ISO loader? Well out of the darkness they have struck again, and have managed to crack the new keys from firmware 3.60 (thanks to Mathieullh tweets), and created the first Ferrox FW 3.60 CFW. This CFW also incorporates the dual-boot to Linux which Graf released the tools/methods a few days ago!
In addition to the CFW, you now have FULL PSN at the moment, but as always proceed at your OWN risk. We don’t know how Sony will deal with or detect CFW 3.60 users.
Team Ferrox also have released their OWN backup manager which features various things current backup managers do (mutliman, gaia), but including:
Read/Write Full NTFS Support
Full MKV support (with subs)
Discless support for ALL PS3 games (includes for users without BLURAY drive)
How to install:
You can download pre-patched PUP (download files for it below too). Instructions inside (do NOT update to OFW 3.60). Everything you need is below (read file before starting anything!)

It would be cool if you can play ur ps3 games from wifi or from ur computer without installing on your ps3. Or an easy way to to connect any external hardrive striaght on the gameos as an icon instead of going into the manager to access all your stuff..

About the the story of NTSC support I think it will be so hard to do that…but what about other systems like the EXT3 or the EXT4 file system’s…the systems used by Linux distibutions…I read that the internal file’s system of the PS3 is some kind of EXT modded system ???!! ( may be I am wrong) so what if a cfw 3.55 could read /write into an external USB HDD with EXT3 system…that will be so usefull for games…the EXT3 support large files (no 4 GO limitation) & is a powerfull system…so if this is done we could read big-file game’s from external USB HDD ???

I am very, very interested in having Linux Ubuntu on the PS3 for one main reason:
-Have a high speed processor (low ram i know, but very high speed for mathematical calculations)
But i also want to use the PS3 as what it is a game console… and i want to be able to use PSN (On-Line mode) without any risk of being Banned of course…
Since SONY does not let you install Custom Firmware… why not a different aproach?
One Like this Dual Boot:
GameOS -> Oficial Firmware
OtherOS -> Linux
Legaly it is like bringing back an old function offered by Sony, and i think Sony can not disallow that since you are not installing a custom Firmware… just only letting the PS3 boot into Linux… maybe there is quite a legal expert out there that can confirm this will not let Sony take actions against us…
I hate piracy, but i love to be able to do more things with same hardware… also i hate Sony because of the decision of removing dual-boot… more i bought the PS3 because it was supposed to let Linux be installed and run… if i would knew it will be removed i would not buy it…
Why i must decide for one of this two things:
-Continue using Linux on the PS3
-Be able to use PSN on the PS3
Sony makes you to hate Sony… i want to still use Linux and PSN on the same PS3…
That decision from Sony (unsupport Linux / DualBoot) can be seen as an intention of double Selling… making the client to buy a new console, just to have one with Linux on it and another to use PSN… that is totally ilegal comercial abuse…
Hope someone can use this to force by laws that Sony put dual boot back or let us install something just for Dual-Booting, i do not mean a Custom Firmwares with dual-boot… that let run homebrew on it… just only for Dual-Boot
With this in mind… why not make something that can be “installed” that only allow Dual-Boot back, while the installed firmware is the official one? I am sure that Sony can not do nothing legal to avoid that, have in mind that if Sony do something to avoid Dual-Boot it can be seen as an intention of forcing you to buy a second PS3, and that is illegal, Sony can not force you to buy anything you do not want to… that is the way in my opinion things must go if we want back Linux on the PS3…
Please some expert in laws, search for this: Sony is trying to force us to by a second PS3 in case we want to use both PSN and Linux… that is totally ilegal… maybe some big company can make some presure to Sony on this way.

Ah, another thing: Sony is violating one law in my country… users can legally make “for personal use only, in concept of BackUp” copies of any Software of any type, just as a BackUp… that law also says that the BackUp must work as the original and also tells that the user is the only one responsible for not using both at the same time, the original and the BackUp, … Sony is breaking that law since does not allow us to use the BackUp instead of the Original while having Original not in use at the same time… so the only way for us to be able to use the BackUp is to install “something” that aloow that… buta again Sony does not allow that… so it also can be seen as an intention of forcing us to double buy all things, their console called PS3 and all the games… that also violates a lot of internation laws, not only laws of my country… maybe some big company can deal legally with Sony on that!!!
This is just an opinion… i told it just because i am very ungry for what Sony is doing against some people that are only trying to bring Linux back to PS3 while letting PSN work… “Sony bring Linux back again and all this, lets call hackers, will not have any need to hack anymore your console”… that phase is what i can read on a lot of, lets call “hackers forums”, just for anybody can understand the term.

Now for kmeaw (please send it as i write it, i do not want to put you and anyone in trouble, kmeaw will know what to do and how when will read this):
-One day my PS3 HDD got filesystem corrupted… so i took of the HDD… connect it to my PC… put a small boot loader on first cylinder… and some data on some other cylinders being carefull for not overwritting thae savegames that i want to recover … re-connect the HDD to the PS3… power on the PS3… and i had a “Grub2 like” boot loader… mount such cylinders as a loop-back (like Grub2 does for CD image “file.iso”) so i can run a very small Linux-like… to be true it was a mini-app that le me to search for files data and save them onto an USB Pendrive as files… that was the way i recover my savegames from a corrupted file system that do not let PS3 back on… after that i let the PS3 format the HDD and re-install Oficial Firmware 3.60… i put back the savegames and they work.

Respect for Kmeaw cfw, it’s the best. I don’t think there will be any chance ever, ever , ever, of permanently being on PSN, whilst using CFW, so forget it.. There’s only 2 ways to go, both have there advantages and disadvantages, CFW of OFW. You can’t have your cake and eat it. Once again Respect to Kmeaw. I only really purchased the Ps3 as a multi- media player I have an xbox360 to play games on, so having Kmeaw cfw is a bonus, and considering I wouldn’t even know where to start to making a cfw I think these guys are bloody amazing, I don’t post much as you can see, but I do a lot of reading, and from what I’ve figured out with my very very little knowledge, is that if you want 3.55 cfw & able to play online 3.60 OFW , would that then not be a 3.60 cfw hack??? Just a thought, so the idea is pretty silly for now, so we need better ideas for the dual boot fw. How about free cable tv to be added….lol, peace!
Hi Kmeaw.Do you know about the CA24.cer file that enables psn. Include that in your CFW + a way of doinf stuff remotly on your pc like chatting with your friends on psn, browsing files .etc.

I’d love to see an updated app for flash so we can get back on hulu and justintv and other sites like CNN. And a way to RIP Blu ray movies of course. How about a Skype integrated icon that uses the eye. And how neat would it be to have a build-in link to bulletin boards like this site so you don’t have to exit to browser. And I’ve always said its time for a way that we can update the visual media player. And have control interface. Someone came up with the dynamic theme editor. Now its time for some kick ass music visual player!

How about..
A new entry in XMB settings or a configurable file
that allows redirection of various key paths, and automatically enable them at startup
for example redirect
/dev_hdd0/home -> /dev_usb001/ps3/home
this would allow you to save/load your user and savegames from a protable source.. protecting the data from system formatting and bypass the backup tool
( /dev_hdd0/home/000001 -> /dev_usb001/ps3/home/000001 – might work also i guess )
im only assuming that it works that way.. i think the system may fail, if you create a new user have it save to the external drive, then remove the drive.. the users data would be non existent, possible causing a “your hdd is corrupt” or “rebuild database”
possibly a “skip” or “preserve user data” option to the format hdd dialog
other than that a file manager in the recovery menu would be freaking lovely, it would allow for file recovery in the event that the ps3 decides is hdd is corrupt, and would possibly aid in un-bricking a system
